Painting Charlotte and Rosalyn
I painted Charlotte while I was taking a break from some of my larger projects. I needed a reset and wanted to do something that was less goal based. The result was this character, Charlotte, who is a dreamy, glamorous black femme. In one evening, I was able to bring this character to life through my painting. I settled on a purple background as purple is the color of royalty and peace.
I enjoy creating multiple portraits sharing common themes and wanted to create a character complementary to Charlotte. Rosalyn took weeks to finish because I was trying so hard to recreate the experience I had with Charlotte. Eventually, I was able to fall back into play and dream. Green is representative of growth, and is soothing. I look at Charlotte and Rosalyn and I am reminded to play more and imagine.
